Unfortunately, gutters can’t clean themselves! When water cant flow out, excess water weight can cause damage, and the standing water is a great breeding ground for pesky mosquitoes. Every spring and fall, you should take a few minutes to clean your gutters. Be sure to remove all objects, such as toys, branches, and leaves.
A good way to flush the troughs is with a garden hose and rubber spatula or childs rake. Dont forget to flush the downspouts as well because they can get clogged with debris. If the downspout wont come unplugged, you may need to use a plumbers snake to break it loose.
While you are cleaning, be sure to look for any loose or damaged hangers, gutters, or downspouts. Twice yearly maintenance is easy and fast, and your gutters will perform better and last longer!
